Biei & Furano Day Trip — Hilltop Trees, the Blue Pond & Farm Tomita

The best-loved day of a Hokkaido road trip. Hop between the famous trees scattered across Biei's rolling hills, pass the Blue Pond and a waterfall, and finish among the flower fields of Furano. Starting from Asahikawa or Biei, it fits comfortably into one day.

Driving tips

  • Most of the fields on Biei's hills are private farmland. Do not walk into the fields or stop on farm roads.
  • In the summer high season the Blue Pond and Farm Tomita parking lots get crowded. Set off early.
  • In winter, driving on snow makes everything take much longer. Read the Hokkaido winter driving guide first.

Distances are straight lines between stops; actual road distances and times are longer. Check opening hours, closing days and prices on the official sites before you go.
